About Far West Freestyle

Far West Freestyle is an official division of US Ski & Snowboard, the national governing body for skiing and snowboarding recognized by the United States Olympic Committee. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, its mission is to support the training and long-term development of competitive mogul skiers by organizing and promoting high-quality freestyle events throughout the Sierra Nevada. The division represents athletes from California, Nevada, and Hawaii, and over the past 30+ years has been a launching point for many U.S. and international Freestyle Ski Team members, including numerous Olympians.
Competitions are hosted at major ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe region, with most events taking place at Palisades-Tahoe and Northstar. Athletes compete across a wide range of ages—starting as young as 7 and continuing into their early 20s—participating in Far West divisional events as well as US Junior Nationals, US Nationals, and the NorAm Tour. These events help athletes progress through the competitive pipeline and gain valuable experience at every stage of their development.
The organization is overseen by a Board of Directors that includes parents of athletes, former and current competitors, and representatives from local ski clubs and freestyle teams. With the support of dedicated parent volunteers and certified US Ski & Snowboard officials, this group manages the planning, coordination, and execution of all Far West Freestyle events throughout the season.
Far West Freestyle is funded through a combination of membership dues, sponsorships, donations, and event fees collected through US Ski & Snowboard. The division relies on this support to continue offering high-quality competitions and athlete development opportunities, and encourages families and community members to support the sponsors who help make these programs possible.
